New green version of the Paisley Rats design for 2020! plus lots of other Paisley Power textile news this week.

On Jan 12th A new enquirer Gail Warnick asked if I had the popular “Paisley Rats” design in green and white. There wasn’t a green version but there is now! She replied “thank you very much”. She’ll be ordering a few yards when I have checked the test swatch from Spoonflower fabric printers. There are more than 50 versions of the Paisley Rats design available to buy as printed fabric or wallpaper. The different versions have a vibrant range of colour combinations and a wide range of sizes from large-scale for wallpaper/bedding to small-scale for making little bags and fabric toys.

These eye-catching purple and black t-shirts are music-themed with guitars and tambourines. The unique motifs in the design represent the songs of the music legend Prince Rogers Nelson. It was great to be asked to create a unique paisley pattern for Vintage Duck Brand (US) in 2015. Sean Woods, the owner, asked me to add the small ducks (the brand logo) to the design in 2018. Can you find them in the picture below? Sean is planning to launch a collection of t-shirts printed with the paisley pattern in 2020.

On Jan 8th 2 more Paisley Prince Songbook products were bought. Marlene Rehberg is a very loyal Paisley Power customer who lives in Ontario Canada. She’s bought a Prince-themed t-shirt and a matching duvet cover. Both items printed with the Paisley Prince Songbook design. Marlene originally wanted to buy some Paisley Prince Songbook wallpaper from Spoonflower printers, to wallpaper one wall in her bedroom. She decided it would be easier to buy a duvet cover instead of buying wallpaper. I think she has made a great decision to suit her home. The duvet can be bought by clicking HERE. Here are the specs for the duvet: Plush, lightweight fleece microfiber provides a soft, cuddly feel and superior warmth. Comforter easily inserts with snaps into duvet and drapes evenly over bed . The dimensions of each size are as follow: Twin: 68″ X 88″, Queen: 88″ X 88″, King: 104″ X 88″.

On Jan 9th, Catherine on the Isle of Wight bought a Paisley Prince Songbook greeting card. This card is the ideal card for people who enjoy the music of Prince Rogers Nelson as it has music-related motifs that symbolize Prince’s songs. The card is blank inside so you can write your own personal message for birthdays, special occasions, Valentine’s Day and every other important event in your life.

On Jan 10th I received an inquiry about the History of Paisley page of my website PaisleyPower.com. The student from Italy used my new “Online Chat” facility, which is accessible on each page of my website. The student wanted to know the sources of reference for my article so I provided them with a list of reference books, TV programmes and website links. I also said that I had visited important exhibitions where I had gained valuable information about the history of the paisley pattern. One of the exhibitions I attended was the excellent “Fabric of India” exhibition in 2015 at the V&A museum London. This exhibition had lots of fascinating exhibits including historic Indian textiles with paisley patterns. The student replied a few hours later and said “thanks , it was useful”. I am glad I helped the student with their academic research.

Lori Wallis Design has bought a yard of the Palm Leaves Tropical fabric (white/black version) designed by Patrick Moriarty. She chose to have the design printed on a base fabric called Organic Sweet Pea Gauze. In February 2019 an interior designer in Chicago bought 38 yards of this white/black version of the Palm Leaves design. He chose to have the design printed on Linen Cotton Canvas. The fabric is eye-catching and dynamic with the palm leaves intertwining to form a harmonious seamless repeat pattern. The design is also available in lots of other colour combinations. Take a look at the whole collection of tropical designs created by Patrick Moriarty and available to order from the Spoonflower website.

I am a textile print designer and create unique designs for fashion, accessories, and home furnishing. I played Keyboards in bands until I was 35, then I retrained as a textile designer. I design fashion prints every day for major international retailers including Zara, Hugo Boss, H&M, and Gap. In 2014 I formed the brand Paisley Power to enable me to promote my designs to a worldwide audience. I enjoy introducing new designs to my collection, then receiving ideas, feedback, and suggestions from my friends and customers. The best part of being a designer is being inspired every day by cultures and environments and interpreting them into my own unique creations. In 2018 I developed a unique method of teaching printed textile design. I began teaching the course at METAL Art School, Southend-on-Sea, Essex, UK in September 2018. It was a big success with lots of students, who had no previous experience in textile design, producing professionally printed fabrics. In 2019 and 2022 I taught my design methods to a group of adults with learning difficulties. I also taught my techniques at a workshop organized by the Guild of Silk Painters, for their members in July 2019. Another strand of my business is providing a Photoshop design service to artists. My clients include Este MacLeod, Jennifer Orkin Lewis (August Wren), and Deborah Velasquez. They send me scans of their paintings and I adapt the artwork into repeating patterns so that they can be used for commercial projects including printed fabrics, wallpapers, puzzles, stationery, and home décor. In January 2019 I launched a new design called Paisley Prince Songbook. I originally created the design by drawing it on paper in 2018. It has been extremely popular as printed fabric with customers all over the world. The Prince-theme scarves, throw pillows, facemasks, bags, totes, and greeting cards have all been selling extremely well. Sales of the printed fabric with the Paisley Prince Songbook design have exceeded 1000 yards. The design has been very popular with Prince fans. The design has unique motifs symbolizing the songs of Prince Rogers Nelson, including purple rain, crying doves, paisley symbols, peace signs, guitars, and tambourines. In 2020 I created the design “Paisley Positivity”, which has been popular with customers as a printed fabric and as made-to-order home décor items, including luxurious bedding. In December 2020, "Paisley Power" and "paisleypower" became registered trademarks with the UK Intellectual Property Office. In 2022, 2 of my most popular designs (Paisley Prince Songbook and Paisley Elephants) were displayed at the Museum for Islamic Art in Jerusalem, Israel. The designs were part of a major exhibition about the paisley pattern.
